The M2S Series: Say Howdy To Harihar Khobragade, DYT’s Sr. Software Eng.
It’s the people who make a company. There is an inherent truth in the saying. So, to introduce you to the pivotal people who make Do Your Thng, we present the Monday to Saturday series.
Getting To Know The People of DYT: Harry
As part of the content team, we rarely have 1-to-1 time with the techies. And because DYT has always favoured remote working, random, in-person watercooler meet-ups have not been an option.
So everytime we heard, “Ask Harry, he can solve this or Harry, please join wr2,” we wondered who the hell Harry is.
It went on for weeks. But then the dawn of understanding began to flow across our faces during a town hall.
No, it defos was not the ginger-haired Prince. He’s the guy we recognise by his given name: Harihar. #TrueStory
Side note: People, switch on your cameras during town halls so team members who don’t work with you day in and day out can connect your faces to your chosen names.
Moving right along, let’s get you acquainted with Harry…
His Official Designation
Harry, as he shall now be forever known, is a Senior Software Engineer at Do Your Thng and the puppet master of the team programming our Android app.
His Unofficial & Much More Important Position
The first person to be hired when we switched to an in-house tech team, the moniker more suited to Harry is the Daily Task Updater.
Or the Chief Shy Officer of DYT. (We don’t know if this one is true, but a lot of DYT people say it fits him.)
His Monday Face
When you work in tech, saasn lena ka bhi waqt nahi milta and your life is a litany of: “Weekends? What are those?”
So, Mondays for Harry invariably mean a need for umpteen naps to recharge his sab ho jayega attitude.
His Saturday Face
By the end of the work week (which, FYI, is now Friday for us), Harry is the poster child for wanderlust.
Travel is on his mind, and when (lord, when?) will he find the time to visit the place he calls home, Nagpur.
What’s His Bread + Butter?
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the #thng Harry can’t live without is coding.
But we refuse to accept that as an answer on the grounds that we don’t want to. So, here’s the real deal. The stuff that gives Harry a dopamine hit is egg curry.
What The Team Thinks About Him?
People are not one #thng.
They have facets. A lot of different personalities boxed up inside, adding colour to our otherwise black and white characters. Asking the team about Harry brought home this truth.
Some say with absolute conviction that he is utterly calm and a bit shy. The humblest, most caring, and supportive person you’ll ever come across.
Others vehemently declare he has an assertive and aggressive side. The in-your-face, gung-ho guy who’ll push you out of your comfort zone to get the job done.
What The Team ‘Really’ Thinks About Him?
It doesn’t matter which side of Harry you get to meet. The calm or the assertive.
Underneath it all, he’s hard-working, prompt, passionate, and reliable as a rock.
FYI, he can also belt a song like nobody’s business and knows when to stop yattering code and dive into movies and show recommendations.
What He Brings To Do Your Thng?
Jira tickets. 😉
But, no, honestly, Harry has made a material difference to many at DYT. Ask him to explain code or solve a problem, and he turns into a professor, happily mentoring juniors on all #thngs Android.
What DYT Brings To Him?
We’d have said work. Lots of work and the ability to not crack under pressure. However, in Harry’s words:
“DYT brings a medley of experiences I’d probably not get elsewhere, like when we integrated the payment gateway to our app. That had a touch of fintech to it. But more than that, it’s created a ravenous hunger to do more, and it’s thanks to Ankit, who constantly pushes the envelope to make the product better.”
