The best part about living in India? Getting to celebrate all sorts of festivals. Eid, Diwali, Onam, Christmas: the list is endless and for creators a thing to rejoice.

Why? Because each holiday brings with it dozens of content ideas. And, tbh, we’ve all run out of ideas on what to post on social media at some point.

So, with carols, jingle bells, and Christmas cakes around the corner, we compiled a list of content ideas that bring all the festive feels.

’Tis the season: holiday post ideas for creators

We’re a month away from Christmas, but creators, it’s never too early to cue the music, put on the cosiest PJs, and post some feel-good holiday content.

Why? Because holiday posts (genuine and organic ones) are a great way to increase engagement on social media. Leaving the creativity up to you (because you know your audience best), we simply list down ideas:

  • How-to posts never go out of fashion

From house décor to how to wrap gifts to what to wear for theme parties, people always engage with how-to content.

  • Recipes for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year parties

For food bloggers and creators, this time of the year is off-the-charts good. Share indulgent recipes, or promote healthy dishes, as long as they have holiday spirit, you’re golden.

  • Posts that include gift ideas

We are perpetually out of gift ideas. It is the hardest thing to do. So, if you can curate a list with Christmas gifts, we promise half the engagement will come just from us.

  • Share photo tips

Holidays mean parties and that means a lot of selfies and plandid photos. So, that’s another content idea for you. Post about what poses to strike or how to take the best photos in low light.

  • Use add yours sticker on Stories

The Add Yours sticker is a new feature on Instagram Stories. That makes it twice as likely to bring you engagement and reach. When you’re sharing holiday-themed Stories, include the sticker. It’ll prompt others to add their version, creating a whole thread. Since anyone can see the thread, it increases your discoverability!

  • Listicles on blogs and carousel on IG

People love bite-sized content. Make it visual and they go ga-ga. So, the next content idea to bring festive feels is a holiday-themed list. From bucket lists for the season to what charity you’re donating to, post fun and informative listicles, Reels or videos.

  • Give your feed a holiday revamp

This is a simple idea, but it works. Change your bio, profile photo, or even the cover images of Highlights to reflect Christmas and the coming new year. A Santa cap, a wreath, or even green, red, and golden colours are excellent ways to increase engagement.

  • 12 posts for 12 days of Christmas

12 gifts, 12 outfits, 12 recipes, 12 places, 12 good deeds, 12 exercises — pick your poison and run with it. Pre-plan your posts for each of the 12 days and make it a countdown. It’s a fantastic tactic to get your followers involved.

  • Livestreams for a virtual holiday

2020 was the year for livestreams. They’ve mainly died down now, but they’re still an awesome idea to expand your engagement on social media because they feel more intimate. Host a workshop or class, or simply talk to your followers about what they have planned for the holidays.

  • Limit your sponsored posts

People shop more during festivities. That means brands will be knocking at your door for collaboration. It’s hard to turn them down (and the moolah), but we caution you to be selective for 3 reasons:

  • One, creating too much content will lead to burnout, and you do not want that.
  • Two, if your feed is just a roll call of #sponsoredcontent, your engagement will drop. Think about it this way: would you binge-watch Stranger Things if half of it was ads? We suggest keeping 25% of your posts branded and the rest organic.
  • Three, it is the holiday season after all and the end of the year. You should have some free time to celebrate and unwind!

Putting the bow on holiday post ideas

You’ve got the content calendar for the holidays down pat. And you know engagement is going to be through the roof. But there is one more thng you can do to improve your reach: find the right time to post on Instagram.

We deferred to smarter minds to answer this critical question. Planoly found, after analysing thousands of posts, that these are the times that bring in the most engagement:

We don’t know if it works. So, do us a solid and share if they do. Until we see you again, keep creating and do your thng!
